The First Step to Becoming a Certified Financial Planner™ Starts Here at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta!

Oglethorpe University's CFP® certification education program provides students with the knowledge needed to meet the educational requirements of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board). It also provides existing and future financial professionals with the skills necessary to provide competent, ethical and comprehensive personal financial planning services. Students include existing financial service professionals, CPAs and attorneys who wish to supplement their existing knowledge and skills, as well as, individuals who are interested in changing careers or are seeking personal wealth management education.

The Financial Planner Program at Oglethorpe University offers a schedule that will allow students to complete their studies in approximately 19 months. During the 19 month period our instructors (who are active members of Atlanta's financial services community), will cover the eight major Job Task Domains in seven course modules: Fundamentals of Financial Planning, Tax Planning, Insurance, Investments, Retirement, Estate Planning, and Financial Plan Development (Capstone). Following successful completion of all courses, students are eligible to apply and sit for the CFP Board Exam. The CFP Board Exams are offered in March, July, and November of each year; our program's schedule is designed to allow for enough time for a review course before taking the exam.

These marks are awarded to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements. Oglethorpe University does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, Certified Financial Planner™ and certification marks. CFP® certification is granted only by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to those persons who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience and examination requirements.
