Non-Partner Schools

Oglethorpe University has long recognized the importance of fostering international understanding among its students and faculty. Oglethorpe's commitment to internationalism, to the promotion of international understanding and to the creation of an international environment on campus has been greatly enhanced in recent years through international exchange agreements with partner institutions in other countries.  Oglethorpe is at the center of one of the world's most original international educational networks, a growing global web of contact between our campus community and those at participating colleges in Europe, Asia and South America.

With agreements for international partnership in place and with other arrangements on the horizon, Oglethorpe has developed the beginning of an entire network of personalized relationships with partners. In 1988, which saw the university's first partnership with an institution abroad, there began a propitious year for international understanding on the Oglethorpe campus. The opportunity for Oglethorpe students to study abroad with their peers in other countries and to meet students from these sister institutions on the Oglethorpe campus has added a new dimension to the curriculum and life of the university. Many of Oglethorpe's partner institutions require visiting students to be proficient in the official language of the institution's home country, though several (such as Otaru University and the Haagse Hogeschool) provide instruction in English.

Oxford Oxford University (WISC Program)
Oxford University accepts Oglethorpe University students who qualify and wish to study for one or two terms each year. While this is NOT a traditional partnership, and students pay tuition to Oxford, Oglethorpe has arranged with Oxford to reduce tuition to the same amount a student pays at Oglethorpe. Students loans can be applied to the costs of attending Oxford, and students studying at Oxford can select specific programs of study, attend all lectures, room and board on or off campus, and participate in both academics and sports. Students completing their studies at Oxford will have their courses transferred to Oglethorpe, and the transcript will indicate study at Oxford.

Studies at the colleges of Oxford range from international studies, art history, anthropology, history, English, philosophy, and other interdisciplinary fields. Course work is primarily tutorial in nature, augmented by special lectures, and an orientation in British culture.

Students interested in Oxford should see Dr. Jeffrey Collins to determine if Oxford pedagogy and methods of learning best suit their educational goals.

"You might not make more money or become a better person because of it, but you'll be able to look outside of your own culture, and your own self, to find the answers. At the same time, it gives you a stronger sense of self because you're out doing things independently and seeing the world on your own terms."
