Students who wish to participate in the International Exchange
Programs for one or two semesters may apply and be considered for
the following financial aid programs:
- Federal Pell Grant*

The entire financial aid process can take several months. The key
to success is to apply early and to follow all instructions
carefully. Special application procedures are contingent upon the
type of international exchange program you will be experiencing.

Institutions
Note: Tuition and fees are charged by and payable to
Oglethorpe University for all schools except those marked "TRB". For
attendance at "TRB" institutions, the student pays all fees
(tuition, room/board and other fees) to Oglethorpe University.
- Please submit a copy of the signed "Certificate of
Acceptance for the Oglethorpe International Exchange Program"
to the Office of Financial Aid. Students should obtain a signed
Certificate of Acceptance from the OUSA/International Programs
Director ONLY after presenting documented evidence that they have
been officially accepted into the initiation abroad. Students will
have the Director of OUSA sign the COA, and then they will take
this form over to the registrar to sign up for the appropriate FOR
course. All appropriate signatures must be provided or your
financial aid will be delayed.
- In order to determine your federal eligibility, you must
complete the 2003-2004 Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA) for study during the Summer 2003, Fall 2003 or Spring
2004 school terms. Applications are available in the Office of
Financial Aid.
- Each student requesting financial aid for the International
Exchange Program must schedule a meeting with a Financial Aid
Administrator in order to determine their total federal, state,
and institutional aid eligibility.
- In addition to federal and state aid, you will also be
considered for Oglethorpe’s International Grant. The International
Grant will equal ½ of the remaining tuition balance after all
grants and scholarships have been deducted for the term.
- You will need to register for FOR 415 - Foreign Study and be
charged Oglethorpe’s regular full-time day student tuition rate.
Exception: If you will be attending one of the institutions marked
"TRB", you will need to register for FOR 420 - Foreign Study (TRB)
- you will be charged the regular full-time day student tuition as
well as the standard room/board amount for the term(s) you will be
abroad.
- Georgia Tuition Equalization Grants are only available for
full-time International Studies Majors.
- HOPE Scholarship funds may be available if the student will be
enrolled full-time and meets the State HOPE Scholarship
qualifications.
- Financial aid disbursements will be made in accordance with
all federal and state regulations. The earliest Oglethorpe can
credit a registered student’s account is 10 days before the first
day of regularly scheduled classes at Oglethorpe University. All
financial aid received is generally applied first toward amounts
owed to Oglethorpe.
- The student is responsible for making all travel and housing
arrangements.
- Federal regulations govern refund policies for those students
who receive federal and state financial aid and completely
withdraw during the semester. You may owe the federal and state
governments repayment of any funds disbursed if you withdraw
during the semester.
Another Institution’s International Exchange Program:
- Please submit the signed Letter of Transient Status, which has
been completed by Oglethorpe’s Registrar to the Office of
Financial Aid. This letter confirms the number of credit hours
that will be accepted by Oglethorpe for the study abroad
experience. In addition to the Registrar, your advisor must sign
this form.
- Each student requesting financial aid must complete the
2002-2003 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in
order to determine their federal aid eligibility for study during
the Summer 2002, Fall 2002 or Spring 2003 school terms.
Applications are available in the Office of Financial Aid.
- The student must schedule a meeting with their Financial Aid
Administrator to determine his/her total financial aid
eligibility. Bring all published literature concerning the study
abroad program to the meeting.
- Federal regulations require that a Consortium or a Contractual
Agreement be established between Oglethorpe University and the
host institution. Eligibility for financial aid will be based upon
the host school’s cost of attendance. In the event that the host
institution is unable to determine the cost of attendance, the
student’s financial aid will be based upon Oglethorpe’s cost of
attendance.
- The student must register for FOR 412- Foreign Study and pay a
$75 matriculation fee* per semester of the International Exchange.
*Note: The Business Office reserves the right to alter the
fee amount.
- The student and their family will be responsible for paying
any advance deposit or tuition payments required by the host
institution. All tuition & fees charged by the host institution,
as well as travel and housing arrangements, etc. are the
responsibility of the student.
- Georgia Tuition Equalization Grants and HOPE Scholarship funds
are not approved for use at another institution’s International
Exchange Program at this time.
- Disbursement of financial aid from Oglethorpe is made in
accordance with all federal and state regulations. The earliest
that federal grant aid may be credited to a registered student's
account is 10 days before the first regularly scheduled day of
class for that period of enrollment. Stafford (Subsidized and
Unsubsidized) and PLUS loan checks are disbursed by the lender to
Oglethorpe University no earlier than 10 days before the first day
of classes at Oglethorpe University. Once received and processed
through your OU student account, the loan proceeds will be
forwarded to you or the host institution as arranged.
- Federal regulations govern refund policies for those students
who receive federal financial aid and completely withdraw during
the semester. Be sure to review the refund policies of the host
institution. Regardless of the host institution’s refund policy,
you may owe a repayment of any funds disbursed if you withdraw
during the semester.
