Which cellular service providers and SmartPhones do NOT work well on campus?
Cell Phone Service Companies -
We have received reports that Sprint, T-Mobile, and MetroPCS DO NOT provide complete coverage on campus. Therefore, if you have one of these providers, you may experience problems.
As these are private companies, there is nothing IT Services can do to enhance their services.
Instead of one of these companies, we highly recommend the use of AT&T or Verizon. We have found, through testing, that these companies provide the best and most complete cellular coverage here at Oglethorpe.
SmartPhone Devices -
Through extensive testing, IT Services has found that ALL Blackberry devices (regardless of service provider) are incompatible with our email and calendering system. Thus, IT Services is unable to assist you with these devices.
Further, IT Services has not tested either Android based phones or the new Palm Pre and, thus, we cannot guarantee they will work with the Oglethorpe network.
Our recommended SmartPhones are either the Apple iPhone or any Windows Mobile based device. Both of these have been throughly tested and work very well on the Oglethorpe network.
