Welcome to Oglethorpe! Below is a tentative schedule of the events
for orientation and arrival weekend.
Oglethorpe University's Orientation program is designed to help you
make the transition to life at OU. You will be welcomed into the
community by representatives from the faculty, staff and student
body. The goal of the program is to make you aware of the wealth of
resources at your disposal and to introduce you to the many
activities and services available at OU. While some details
may change, this schedule can help you plan your arrival at
Oglethorpe.
Please note that
attendance at orientation sessions is required of all new students.

Thursday, August 20 |
9:00am - 11:30am

Resident Freshmen Move-In
Residential students report to their assigned residence halls.
If you are done early, you and your parents are invited to
tour the Weltner Library and the Oglethorpe Museum. |

One-Stop Shop
Grenwald Room, Emerson Student CenterPay bills, purchase

Academic Advising and Registration
New students who have not yet registered for classes will have an assigned advisor and appointment time. Students will meet with the advisor in his/her office, and then take the course registration form to the Registrar in the One Stop Shop. Advising information will be communicated by the admission office (call 404-364-8470 with questions). New students who did attend OU Passport and are already placed in classes should go directly to the Registrar for add/drop forms if changes to the course schedule are desired.

Lunch and Vendor Fair
Cold buffet lunch available in
the Schmidt Recreation Center. $5 tickets will be available in
residence halls and the Emerson Student Center. Vendors will be
in attendance to provide information about bank accounts, cell phones,
newspaper delivery, premium Comcast cable services, and gym memberships. |

Letting Go: Parents, Millennials and Cutting the Cord
All parents should report to the Lupton Auditorium for a discussion with representatives from Student Affairs. |

Commuter Check-In in the Admission Lobby
Commuter students who do not have an advising appointment on 8/20 do not need to arrive on campus until the 2:00 p.m. hour. Check-in is in the admission office in Lupton Hall. Commuters may use this time to visit the One Stop Shop to pay bills, buy a parking pass, have an ID card made, etc. |

First Year Seminar Sessions
All students
should report to their Fresh Focus room for their first class
session and signing of the Honor Code. Parents are invited to meet the instructor and fellow
parents. |

Honor Code Signing and Class Photo
Students and parents separate, with students proceeding to the Library 24-hour room to meet Honor Council representatives and sign the Honor Code. They then go to the Reading Room for their class photograph. Parents go directly to the Conant Center and meet with the Dean of Students/Vice President for Student Affairs. |

Convocation
Students proceed to the Conant Center with their
seminar groups and parents. Refreshments served on the porch; parents are asked to say their goodbyes afterwards. |

Commuter Dinner and Networking
New commuters meet each other during dinner in the Student Center's Talmage Room. Also, returning commuters will share strategies on being a successful "day student" at Oglethorpe. Hosted by the Vice President for Student Affairs and members of the staff. |

Orientation Service Project hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement (attendance required)
Meet in Lupton Auditorium by 7:45 a.m. to hear instructions for the day and board the buses. Continental breakfast will be in the Lupton Auditorium from 7:45 - 8:15 a.m. All participants must wear closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops), sunscreen and loose fitting clothes that can get dirty. The service project will be held at Historic Oakland Cemetery, a 48 acre rural garden cemetary located in downtown Atlanta. Volunteers will be beautifying, cleaning and mulching the grounds. All first-year students who participate in the service project will complete 1 of the 4 required CCE Petrel Points. The project is also open to upperclassmen, faculty, staff and alumni who would like to participate. |

OUr Atlanta Trip to Coca-Cola Headquarters (attendance required)
Follow your Orientation Leaders and Center for Civic Engagement Captains to sign up for and board buses for a unique trip in front of the Dorough Field house from 5:00 - 5:15 p.m.. The Center for Civic Engagement is hosting a trip to the Coca-Cola Headquarters, a key Atlanta landmark. Students will meet the executives from one of the world's largest businesses headquartered in Atlanta, learn the history of the famous beverage and try coca-cola desserts. Please eat dinner before this event. All first-year students who participate in the OUr Atlanta trip will complete 1 of the 4 required CCE points. |

Oglethorpe University Museum of Art Reception (optional but strongly recommended)
This program serves as the closing ceremony for the twin current exhibitions of Dachau Before Dachau: European Artist Colony 1860-1914 and Dachau Concentration Camp: Years of Destruction, 1933-1945. While the final day to view these exhibitions will be Sunday, August 30, 2009, attendees will get an last chance to hear comments from Museum Director Lloyd Nick and receive an Arts & Ideas Petrel Point for the show. Admission: $5 for non-students; OU students admitted for free. Free refreshments provided. |
