Associate Director of Admission
Admission territory: Fulton County, GA.
Hi, my name is Katie Paden, and I’m an Associate Director of Admission here at Oglethorpe. I joined the admission team in the summer of 2006. In addition to working with students whose school is in Fulton County, I have the privilege of managing our on-campus admission events. I also enjoy working with high school counselors through our advisory board and other programs.
Being a Memphis, TN, native and a Vanderbilt University alum, I first came to know Oglethorpe as a staff member rather than as a student. However, I remember vividly how it feels to move to Atlanta from out of state and to join the OU community. In a sense, then, I know what it’s like to be a “prospective” and then a “freshman,” just as you might as an applicant and a future Petrel. Oglethorpe is a special place. I value the rich academic environment that OU cultivates; the many chances for faculty, staff and students to get to know one another; and the variety and open-mindedness that characterize the OU community. Atlanta is a great city, too, with many districts, restaurants, and events to explore. When I’m not in the admission office, I enjoy reading a good book, following college basketball and football, and walking in my favorite Atlanta neighborhoods and parks.
Favorite spot on campus: The Conant Performing Arts Center (which often means I’m about to see a great show at Georgia Shakespeare!).
Favorite OU tradition: The Carillon Ceremony.
Favorite OU trivia: That Hermance Stadium, now used for Petrel baseball, was originally intended as a football arena on the scale of the Roman Coliseum.
Favorite Atlanta spot: Your DeKalb Farmers Market.
Favorite authors: Eudora Welty and Wendell Berry.
Most interesting place I've been: The Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain.
