Men Come Home in 6th Place at 2008 Championships; Pugh Makes First Team All-American
The Oglethorpe University men's golf team shot a team final round of 21 over par 305 and finished in 6th place at the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships held at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Georgia.
The Stormy Petrels entered the day 12 strokes off the pace but could not put together the neccessary charge to overtake eventual tournament winner St John's (Minnesota) who posted a stellar final round of 7 over par 291. In doing so, St. John's climbed from fourth to first to take the 2008 title.
Oglethorpe sophomore Scott Pugh continued his torrid play, shooting 4 over par 76 to come home in a tie for 7th place which earned him First Team All-American honors.
Petrel senior Taylor Urbanski rebounded from an uncharacteristic tournament start by closing strong with a 1 over par 72 to close out his college career in style. With the sparkling final round, Urbanski jumped up into a tie for 55th place finish.
Sophomore David Dilibero finished his tournament at 23 over par 307 to record a tied for 44th finish. Freshman Matthew Rebitch finished at 25 over par in a tie for 50th place and junior Hap Kaufold carded a tourney total of 28 over to come home in a tie for 68th.
