Gates Wins for Second Time in Spring 2008 Season
Team Takes 3rd Place at Rhodes Spring Invitational
Oglethorpe University senior Julia Gates earned her second first place finish of the spring 2008 women's golf season by topping the field at the Rhodes College Spring Invitational. Her two-day total of 12-over 156 bested teammate Katie Dale by six strokes to win the medalist honors.
Dale, continuing her steady rise in the collegiate golf ranks as only a sophomore, recorded an 18-over 162 to finish in a tie for second place with Rhodes' Stephanie Mingos. Oglethorpe senior Jessi Bonham also had a strong showing at the event, finishing alone in 15th place with a two-day total of 189.
The Stormy Petrel team, however, finished just outside of first place, falling to eventual champion Centre College by a scant 5 strokes for the team's third place finish.
Oglethorpe will now turn it's attention to the 2008 SCAC Spring Sports Festival to be held in Indiana the weekend of April 26.
