Oglethorpe Helps Youth Tee Up
Oglethorpe University’s men’s and women’s golf teams will be participating in The First Tee of East Lake program today and on Friday, February 22, from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m.
This golf instruction and life skills program is sponsored by the East Lake Foundation and supported by volunteers. The First Tee of East Lake helps to enhance the academic achievement of area youth. The initiative provides young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship through golf and character education.
Students in grades second through eighth who attend East Lake's Drew Charter School, one of Oglethorpe University’s Center for Civic Engagement’s partner schools, learn about golf through physical education classes and other golf-related activities during and after school, summer and Saturday programs.
The program serves East Lake children and teens (ages 7-18) at the Charlie Yates Golf Course, a public, 18-hole golf course that winds through the East Lake neighborhood.
