Tournament in 2003 to honor the former Oglethorpe soccer player who died in the
World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.
John
Salamone was a great soccer player who competed for Oglethorpe University
and graduated in 1986. In addition to the tournament, there was also a

The Salamone Alumni Soccer Tournament was designed to create a sense of unity
among the different eras of Oglethorpe soccer. It also fosters relationships
between former and current players, helping the students transition into the
professional world. Alumni who compete receive a t-shirt, participate in an
awards ceremony, and have the opportunity to take home the coveted John P.
Salamone Trophy for one year.
Over the years the tournament has grown significantly and in 2005 over 125
alumni, family and friends gathered to participate in the tournament. The
Salamone Alumni Soccer Tournament is held each year in the Fall.
