Explore your options in a supportive community

You don’t have to know your end goal to know that Oglethorpe University is a right step on your journey.

Nearly 10% of our admitted first-year students do not yet know what they want to study. But, they know they want to learn, build skills and expand possibilities.

A liberal arts education means studying broadly—taking classes in many different subjects—and building skills that are geared toward more than just one profession. While you’re learning more about new subjects and yourself, you’ll have the support of the Oglethorpe community—faculty, staff and classmates—along the way.

Support

You don’t have to figure your future out on your own. Faculty, Student Success advisors, peer mentors, RAs, and staff—we are all here to help you succeed.

First Year Seminar helps students transitioning to college by creating faculty and peer connections. Connect to people and resources on campus during regular sessions with your peer mentor, faculty and a small group of first-year students.

Make a life

On a smaller campus, it’s often easier for students to build strong relationships with professors and peers. And the majority of students at private colleges say their institutions support their academic and personal success.

Community

Our low faculty-to-student ratio means that your teachers get to know you and your career goals. You will have more engaging classes, more feedback from professors, and more opportunities to connect with classmates outside of class.

Make a living

In today’s labor market, career paths are changing rapidly, and graduates must draw from a variety of skill sets to adapt to challenges and capitalize on opportunities.

The Core

Over four years at Oglethorpe, you’ll be exposed to a variety of courses designed to build upon each other and expose you to topics outside your major. These Core courses not only expose you to more of your peers outside of your concentration, but will also prepare you better for your professional life after college.

Make a Difference

Want to make a difference in your community? Students at private colleges are more likely to vote and to volunteer than young people in the population at large.
