Dr. Earl C. Howell teaches International Business, both on campus and abroad in Barcelona and Rome, Operations Management, and Strategic Management, the capstone course in the Business Administration program. Dr. Howell’s interests are strategy implementation, the role of community banks, and the impact of regulation on small banks and small businesses. During his business career, he held executive positions in the consulting, manufacturing, real estate management and financial services industries. His assignments include service as division president and chief financial officer for a manufacturing firm; chief financial officer and chief operating officer responsibilities for a financial services firm; and, most recently president and chief operating officer for a national student housing company with over 40,000 beds. He has extensive experience in the development and implementation of strategy guiding merger and acquisition activity for private funding groups; and, providing advice and directing both going private and going public transactions. Most recently, in his role as president and chief operating officer, he prepared for and took a company public on the New York Stock Exchange.
Dr. Howell has his BA and MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his DBA from Kennesaw State University. Dr. Howell served 30 years of combined active and reserve service with the U.S. Army, and is a graduate of the United States Army War College.
