Oglethorpe University’s beloved Boar’s Head tradition brought joy to campus on Friday, Dec. 5, bringing students, alumni, families, and friends together for a festive night of connection and celebration.
The event kicked off with a lively alumni Evening of Holiday Enchantment gathering that proved to be one of the highlights of the night. Graduates from across class years reconnected, swapped stories, and enjoyed a range of special touches designed just for them—including a photo booth experience provided by alumna business owner Zuri Johnson ’23. Young alumni also had their own dedicated space in the game room lounge, which quickly became a favorite hangout spot and a fun space to unwind and mingle.
“The Evening of Holiday Enchantment is one of the events that my family and I look forward to. The alumni relations office does an incredible job making all the alumni feel welcomed back on campus,” says Shahina Butler ’02. “It’s one of the special times during the year that I get to catch up with old classmates without the sense of feeling rushed. I get to take a pause and enjoy being in the moment. My kids also enjoy attending the event, and they make new friends each year.”
The centerpiece of the night was the Boar’s Head concert, which had the entire audience smiling and singing along. Following the presentation of new ODK inductees and the “Legend of the Boar’s Head,” a special reading by ODK Faculty Member Dr. John Nardo, rounded out the program.
Sing-along classics like “Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bells” filled the hall with holiday cheer, and the crowd especially loved the lively musical moments inspired by the hit movie “Elf,” which brought fun and enjoyment to the evening.
To cap off the celebration, students hosted a vibrant after-party inspired by the recent “Wicked” films: The Emerald City. With creative decor, upbeat music, and plenty of energy, the student-led event concluded the night on a high note, keeping the festive spirit alive well into the evening.
This year’s Boar’s Head concert and celebration was a perfect blend of tradition, community and holiday fun. It was a memorable evening as one of Oglethorpe’s most cherished celebrations.
