Since the tradition began in the U.S. in 2012, GivingTuesday has become a day of inspiration and generosity, inspiring people worldwide to unite to create positive change.
This year, GivingTuesday is Dec. 3, and Oglethorpe invites all members of the community – friends, parents, alumni, and more – to join in this day of giving. By channeling charitable gifts through Oglethorpe on GivingTuesday, alumni and friends can demonstrate the collective power and commitment to Oglethorpe’s mission to the larger community.
“Your participation will help to make Oglethorpe’s life-changing education possible for future generations,” said Sarah Emerson, vice president of Advancement at Oglethorpe. “Your support will provide the resources OU needs to take advantage of new opportunities, address challenges, and continue to position Oglethorpe as the premier undergraduate learning experience in Atlanta.”
Those wanting to become more involved in the GivingTuesday campaign can increase their impact by becoming a Social Media Ambassador. Social Media Ambassadors play a vital role by spreading the word within their networks and inspiring others to give. Those who volunteer will receive a custom link to share on their social media channels. They will be able to track the results of their efforts on the leaderboard, including the number of donors they’ve reached and the total dollars they’ve raised.
The amount and area to support are matters of personal choice. What’s most important on GivingTuesday is participation. Strong community involvement not only strengthens the university’s commitment to giving but also inspires others to join in and invest in Oglethorpe as well.
