New campaign showcases Oglethorpe’s impact across Atlanta

This summer, the Office of Marketing and Communications has launched a storytelling initiative that highlights alumni who are making a difference across Atlanta through their work and service. The campaign features alumni whose careers reflect the many ways the university’s mission comes to life beyond campus and impacts the city of Atlanta.

The group of featured alumni includes:

  • Sophia Sobrino ’24, who helps create educational experiences for visitors at the High Museum of Art.
  • Edmund Smith ’15, a physician associate with Piedmont Urgent Care who is committed to improving access to healthcare.
  • Josh Burr ’06 and Kira-Marie Burr ’09, whose work with Northside Youth Organization and the Chastain Park Conservancy helps strengthen communities across the city.
  • Melody Confer ’20, who supports professional photographers and community engagement initiatives through her work with Professional Photographers of America.
  • Nicole Kang ’13, an artist and advocate whose public art and storytelling projects foster connection and belonging.
  • Brent Jones ’04, associate vice president and executive deputy athletic director at Georgia Tech.

“These stories reflect a truth I’ve seen throughout my connection to Oglethorpe: our graduates leave campus prepared not only to build successful careers, but to make meaningful contributions to the communities they call home,” said Chris Sweigart ’03, associate vice president for marketing. “Their stories help illustrate a larger one: the role Oglethorpe has played, and continues to play, in shaping the civic, cultural and economic life of Atlanta.”

The campaign is part of a broader effort to increase Oglethorpe’s visibility throughout Atlanta. The stories are featured on the university website and through sponsored content and digital advertising throughout the Atlanta area, helping tell the story of an institution that is deeply connected to the city it calls home.
