The U.S. Department of Education recently released its annual financial responsibility composite scores for private colleges and universities, awarding Oglethorpe the highest score of 3.0. Based on audited financial reports from 2014-15, these scores measure a school’s overall financial strength and help to determine their eligibility to award federal financial aid.
[contextly_sidebar id=”AVgjzq9JehhnQ5SuCyK4rtjE9QZHKn5A”]Scores may range from -1.0 to 3.0 and require a score of 1.5 or higher to receive federal funds without additional oversight. Nationwide, 177 private colleges failed the test based on most recent measures.
Among our peers in the eight-member Southern Athletic Association, only one other school, Rhodes College, scored a perfect 3.0. Likewise, among private, non-profit colleges in Georgia, only 7 of 38 scored a 3.0.
