Oglethorpe brings Petrel Tailgate to ATL Fútbol Fest, reaches new audiences in Atlanta

Oglethorpe University brought its brand to life at ATL Fútbol Fest, a two-day soccer celebration that drew fans from across the region June 26–27 at Assembly Atlanta.

As an official sponsor of the event, Oglethorpe served as the title sponsor of the VIP experience, welcoming alumni, friends and special guests to watch three international matches across Friday and Saturday. The festival, hosted by Telemundo Atlanta, featured global matchups, live entertainment and interactive fan experiences tied to the growing excitement around soccer in Atlanta.

The Petrel Tailgate at the ATL Futbol Fest.University representatives, including student-athletes from the men’s soccer team, staffed the experience throughout the weekend. Their presence created opportunities for event attendees to engage directly with Oglethorpe representatives and the university’s energy firsthand.

“Oglethorpe thrives when we are out in the community building real connections,” said Chris Sweigart ’03, associate vice president of marketing. “ATL Fútbol Fest gave us a chance to be part of something bigger in Atlanta, connect with alumni and introduce new audiences to the university in an authentic way.”

Oglethorpe’s event space also included the “Petrel Tailgate,” a fan-focused gathering space that featured a branded photo booth experience. The photo booth was made possible through a partnership with TruKin Booth, led by Oglethorpe alumna Zuri Johnson ’23. Hundreds of attendees participated throughout the weekend, capturing moments and engaging with the university in a memorable way.

For Oglethorpe, the weekend provided an opportunity to reconnect with alumni, strengthen relationships with friends and supporters, and increase the university’s visibility across the Atlanta community.

Presence at the event reflects Oglethorpe’s broader commitment to engaging audiences beyond campus and showing up in meaningful ways at major cultural and sporting events across the city.
