For many years, Oglethorpe University has stood out as a popular filming location in Atlanta for studios, thanks to its unique Gothic architecture and academic environment. The university was most recently featured in the series finale of Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things.’
In this short scene, Dustin Henderson, played by Gaten Matarazzo, is off at college in his school’s library and runs off for an “occasional adventure” with Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery. The scene begins in Oglethorpe’s Great Hall of Hearst and continues with Dustin exiting Hearst Hall, running across the quad in front of Jacobs Driveway, also known as “the keyhole”, and embracing Steve in front of Lupton Hall.
This appearance marks the second time Oglethorpe has been prominently featured in a Netflix project, following “Do Revenge” (2022), starring Camilla Mendes and Maya Hawke.

Over the years, the university has hosted a variety of movies and television shows for filming, including “Love, Simon,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Will Trent,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Ozark,” and the soon-to-be-released “Poetic License.”
“We welcome the opportunity to showcase Oglethorpe’s beautiful campus while supporting Georgia’s film and television industry,” says Pete Stobie, Oglethorpe senior vice president and CFO/COO.
“It’s always impressive to see how much collaboration and effort go into filming just a few minutes of a scene,” says Stobie. “While each project may involve temporary disruptions, the revenue it generates directly supports OU’s ability to offer scholarships and continue providing an excellent education.”
