Oglethorpe University’s Dr. Kendra A. King Momon recently appeared on WABE’s “Closer Look with Rose Scott,” joining a panel discussion for the program’s annual Juneteenth special.

The live broadcast, titled “We Who Remain: Black Legacy & America at 250,” explored how Black history is preserved, remembered and carried forward as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary.

Momon, Oglethorpe’s associate provost for academic affairs and a professor of politics, contributed to the conversation alongside scholars and community leaders. The discussion, led by host Rose Scott, examined Juneteenth not only as a commemoration of emancipation but also as an ongoing practice of cultural preservation and collective memory.

The special event was recorded live in Atlanta’s historic Westside, bringing together voices from across higher education and the broader community to reflect on the legacy of Black history and its relevance for future generations.

At Oglethorpe, Momon is widely recognized for her scholarship in African American politics, urban politics and leadership studies, as well as her work developing student leadership programs.
