OU Giving Day 2026 sets new standard for philanthropic impact

Oglethorpe University celebrated an extraordinary milestone on Feb. 11 as the Petrel community united for OU Giving Day 2026. In just 24 hours, supporters contributed $304,071.92 from 265 donors, soaring past the university’s $200,000 goal and delivering transformational support for Oglethorpe students.

From early-morning gifts on the East Coast to late-night contributions from the West, alumni, families, faculty, staff, students and friends demonstrated the strength of the Oglethorpe network. Donors representing 26 states joined the effort, underscoring the reach and loyalty of a community deeply committed to the university’s mission.

Momentum built steadily as matching gifts and special challenges encouraged participation across campus and beyond. All nine Giving Day challenges were met, unlocking additional funds that will directly benefit academic programs, scholarships, campus initiatives and areas of greatest need. Together, these contributions will create meaningful opportunities for current and future Petrels.

“OU Giving Day is a powerful example of what makes this community so special,” said Sarah Emerson, vice president for advancement. “When our alumni, families and friends come together with a shared commitment to our students, the results are extraordinary. Every gift represents an investment in the transformational experience that defines an Oglethorpe education.”

Excitement rippled through campus and across digital spaces as milestones were reached and stories were shared. Ambassadors played a key role in amplifying the day’s progress, inspiring their networks to give and fueling a distinctive sense of Petrel pride.

The success of Giving Day 2026 reflects the dedication of a community that believes deeply in the power of an Oglethorpe education — one that empowers graduates to make a life, make a living, and make a difference. Thanks to the generosity shown on this remarkable day, Oglethorpe is poised to advance its mission with renewed momentum.

Oglethorpe University extends heartfelt appreciation to everyone who made a gift, sponsored a challenge, or served as an ambassador. The Petrel community continues to prove that when we come together, we create lasting and meaningful change.
