Atlanta’s vibrant arts scene provides ample internship opportunities for Oglethorpe students, but Isabella Reid-Broadie ’27 found her professional experience at a nonprofit organization, The Carter Center. 

This summer, Reid-Broadie worked as the Art and Volunteer Services Intern at The Carter Center, where she gained experience in museum work. She was responsible for conducting inventory for over 1,500 items across three buildings, helped install new works and conducted background research on artists.

Her biggest project, and the one she’s most proud of, was creating an efficient, user-friendly art catalog and database of the Carter Center’s works. 

Reid-Broadie’s studio art and art history majors were helpful to her in this experience, but she credits specifically her museum studies minor for equipping her. 

“My museum studies class that I took with Elizabeth Peterson Jennings, as well as the experience that I gained while working with her in Oglethorpe University Museum of Art (OUMA), helped me prepare for this internship,” she said. “It was the skills that I learned here that I built upon at the Carter Center.”

Thanks to her coursework and valuable internship experience, Reid-Broadie is ready to continue growing her career in archival and museum work at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art in the fall.
