Oglethorpe’s prime Atlanta location continues to create connections with the entertainment industry, drawing big names and exciting opportunities to campus. Most recently, Producers Guild of America (PGA) members visited Oglethorpe for an engaging panel discussion on sustainable filmmaking, inviting film and media studies students to learn from industry pros.
The panel, titled “Green Filmmaking: What It Means to be Sustainable,” was moderated by Suzan Satterfield, Managing Partner at Picture Windows Production. The panelists included:
- Lauren Gloster Pendleton, Director of Client Accounts at Earth Angel Sustainable Production Services
- Ben Hall, Production Sustainability Advisor at Netflix
- David S. Luse, Location Manager
- Dan Rosenfelt, Founder of Electric Owl Studios
The discussion explored practical ways the film industry can adopt eco-friendly practices, such as using green energy and recycling old film sets. While the monthly PGA meetings are typically exclusive to members, Oglethorpe film students were given a unique opportunity to engage with industry professionals during the Q-and-A session and in one-on-one conversations.
“Hosting the monthly meeting of the Atlanta chapter of the Producer’s Guild of America provided an opportunity for students to participate in the discussion,” says Dr. Katharine Zakos, Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies.
This spring, Oglethorpe student filmmakers will have another chance to connect with Atlanta film professionals at the annual Last Looks Film Festival where they will serve as judges.
“These connections are important because they can lead to internship opportunities, and oftentimes even opportunities for employment.”
