Dr. Mario Chandler, professor of Spanish, has published Gazing the Black Star: An African American Contemplates Ghana (Hetura Books, 2016). He recently returned from a sabbatical in Ghana.
Dr. Chandler earned his bachelor’s degree at Iowa State University and his M.A. and Ph.D. at The University of Georgia.

His teaching and research interests include Medieval and Golden-age Spanish literature with particular emphasis on trans-Atlantic approaches, and literature, film, and cultures related to Afro-Hispanic and Afro-Latino populations, including Spanish-speaking communities in Africa.
