The launch of Oglethorpe’s Healthcare Career Communities has already opened doors for students eager to expand their healthcare industry knowledge. This new initiative complements existing student organizations focused on specific medical careers, providing a collaborative space for students to connect, share resources and learn from one another based on their career aspirations.

Oglethorpe’s healthcare-focused organizations include Phi Delta Epsilon, Pre-Dental Club and Pre-Vet Club. These clubs help members navigate the rigorous process of applying to medical, dental and veterinary schools by hosting workshops and guest speakers.
Aldair Ortiz ’26, president of the Pre-Dental Club, helped create the club with other students interested in the career.
“It was important to create a niche organization for this career pathway for students who want to become dentists in order to connect and share knowledge together with other students,” said the biology student. “Doing so helps bring opportunities and keep students motivated to continue to learn more about the dental field and, most importantly, become a stronger applicant for dental schools.”

Beyond the classroom, students are gaining real-world experience in their areas of interest. Members of the Pre-Dental Club recently stepped into the role of dental assistant for a day, gaining firsthand experience of what their future careers could look like. Meanwhile, the Pre-Vet Club has introduced students to various career pathways available in veterinary medicine, hosting professionals in zoo medicine, veterinary radiology and more.
With the growing interest in the medical industry and the Healthcare Career Communities, Oglethorpe students are gaining the knowledge, experience, and connections needed to pursue a medical career.
