The President’s Advisory Council (PAC) has pledged $25,000 to support the success of the fourth annual OU Giving Day. They will match any gift made to the Kathryn T. McClymond Scholarship at double the rate—matching two dollars for every dollar donated.
The PAC is a group of alumni and community members appointed by the president. It is comprised of influential Oglethorpe alumni, community members and friends from a wide range of businesses and organizations.
Jason Solomon ’01 is the current chair of the PAC and is excited about the opportunity to work with Dr. McClymond.
“I’ve had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with Dr. McClymond both officially and socially. Her enthusiasm for the university is infectious, and at every OU event I attend, she is always there,” said Solomon. “She is committed to this university for the long term, and the PAC is excited to be a part of making that vision a reality.”
These PAC individuals are those who have demonstrated the values of leadership, service and lifelong learning that Oglethorpe embodies. The role of this council is to assist the university by sharing information, providing introductions, advocacy and feedback that will advance the university.
And this year, they’re showing their support with their matching gift challenge on OU Giving Day.
“OU Giving Day has grown significantly in the past few years, and I wanted the PAC to take a leadership role. By matching donations to the Kathryn T. McClymond Scholarship Fund, we’re illustrating our appreciation and excitement for what Dr. McClymond is bringing to the university,” said Solomon. “It’s a chance to multiply the impact of donations and build something that will benefit the students forever.”
The Kathryn T. McClymond Scholarship Fund has been launched in honor of Oglethorpe University’s 18th president and first female president, Dr. Kathryn T. McClymond. The scholarship will be an endowed, merit-based scholarship designed to support outstanding Oglethorpe students through all four years of college.
“I deeply appreciate Jason Solomon’s leadership of the PAC and this generous contribution to the scholarship,” says President Kathryn McClymond. “I am also incredibly grateful for the guidance, dedication, and commitment of all PAC members.”
At OU, 90% of OU students receive merit-based scholarships, and more than 99% of students receive some form of financial aid. Oglethorpe University seeks to grow and enhance our endowed student scholarship funds over the next 10 years under Dr. McClymond’s leadership.
Those who wish to make gifts to Oglethorpe in Dr. McClymond’s honor are encouraged to support the scholarship fund with a donation on February 12.
