Kate Wilson ’27 is a communication studies student with a minor in creative writing. She is currently interning with In Good Company, applying her marketing and social media knowledge as the Marketing and Communications Intern.
Like many other college students, I was struggling to secure a summer internship; however, Oglethorpe University’s Career Development website led me to the application for the Partnership for Inclusive Innovation’s (PIN) summer internship program. The PIN summer internship program connects civic-minded students with businesses working towards public innovation, allowing students to immerse themselves in a 12-week full-time internship program. After completing the PIN application, I matched with In Good Company (IGC) and interviewed with their co-founder.
Once I received my job offer and accepted, I kicked the summer off at the PIN opening ceremony, where my cohort of over 100 interns gathered to begin our internship journey. We heard from leaders across Georgia about the importance of internships and professional development. It was an incredibly insightful day and made me excited to get started.
Now, I serve as the Marketing and Communications Intern for IGC and handle many essential tasks, giving me valuable insight into my future career goals. In Good Company focuses on providing business leaders with the proper tools to help them manage and understand team members with disabilities. This summer, IGC is building an AI tool to help create custom support plans for managers leading teams of individuals with disabilities. To help support the team, one of my main tasks is conducting market research of international interability businesses that would be good candidates for the AI tool. So far, I have composed a list of over 200 companies and hope to keep that growing.
Furthermore, I managed the launch of the new IGC podcast and continue to lead episode drops and social media campaigns. The “In Good Company Podcast with Sarah Gabriel” gives interability businesses a place to share their stories and advise businesses looking to follow the same path. Leading the podcast launch opened my eyes to a whole new side of marketing and gave me real-world experience as a project manager.

Finally, I manage the IGC Instagram account in my daily work, ensuring we stay engaged with followers while continuing to grow our following. I created an established system to schedule posts and outline caption details for each week’s content.
My internship experience is incredibly fulfilling and has given me some clarity as to where I see my future career headed. I love working in the disability field, and my experience at IGC has taught me how important it is to bring light to individuals with disabilities and mission-minded businesses.
As a student at Oglethorpe University, I learned the importance of collaboration and teamwork, two key skills that have helped me succeed in my internship. To any student struggling to find an internship or feeling overwhelmed by applications, I would encourage you to look into PIN and use Oglethorpe’s resources to your advantage.
