A business degree is often one of the best ways to make a major impact on the world – because it’s all about the know-how to get the big things done. Whether you have your future all planned out, or you’re just beginning to find your way, a degree in business administration is a practical and flexible foundation for a range of rewarding careers.

As a business administration major in the Hammack School of Business at Oglethorpe, you’ll explore topics like accounting, finance, management, and marketing, gaining a broad and diverse introduction to these important subjects. You’ll also hone your skills in communication, problem solving, leadership, and strategy. So whether your future takes you to the C-level at a Fortune 500, or leads you to labor in the trenches of a soul-driven start-up, you’ll be starting with an extra strong footing.

Plus, like most things at Oglethorpe, we do business a little differently. While our students gain top-notch skills in the “brass tacks” stuff like numbers and business terminology, we’re also highly oriented toward developing each student as a unique individual with their own valuable set of aptitudes and experiences. As a business student at OU, you’ll engage in spirited class debates, pen long-form essays, and explore the big wide world beyond the balance sheet.

Focus in Finance or Marketing

In addition to the foundational coursework, you can choose a focus in finance, management, or marketing. For each area of focus, you’ll take four high-level electives to expand your expertise and add strong credentials to your resume. This in-depth exploration is a great way to prepare for graduate study in a specific area, or gain a competitive edge for jobs in your field.

Offered as:

Oglethorpe encourages students to broaden their horizons and widen their comfort zones. Sometimes that means mastering a new skill. Sometimes it means taking a class in a subject you’d never imagined. And sometimes it even means traveling the world.

  • Widen your horizons with Oglethorpe’s many opportunities for study abroad. You can even take your business courses while getting to know a foreign city, thanks to the business department’s partnership with a university in Rome.
  • Our students have landed business internships at a wildly diverse selection of high-profile organizations, like the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Chi Phi Fraternity National Headquarters, Cisco Systems, the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Coca-Cola, Disney, Embassy of Honduras in London, Enterprises, German American Chamber of Commerce, Grupo Terra at Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Marcus Institute, Merrill Lynch, Northwestern Mutual, Porsche Financial Services, Preparis, Rail Sciences Inc., Warner Bros. At Oglethorpe, your degree in business administration will be grounded by a strong foundation in communication, cultural knowledge, and critical thinking, which every OU student develops through the Core (our unique approach to the liberal arts). It all adds up to excellent preparation for a great career in the business world, whether in business management or a related profession.

  • Business students can also pursue careers in advertising, banking, financial services, or marketing.
