Annual Career and Grad School Fair connects Oglethorpe students with professional opportunities

Oglethorpe University students took another step toward their professional futures at the annual Career and Graduate School Fair, connecting face to face with employers, recruiters and representatives from graduate and professional programs.

This year’s fair welcomed nearly 30 participating organizations and programs representing a broad range of career and educational pathways. Employers represented industries including commercial banking, retail, accounting, healthcare, staffing and recruiting, while graduate and professional programs covered fields such as business, law, nursing, pharmacy, education and technology.

“I am excited to see the growing commitment to career readiness at Oglethorpe University,” said Liz Kazungu-Emerson, director of Career Development. “We have experienced tremendous participation in our alumni career panel series, strong engagement in our Oglethorpe Goes to Work Day preparation sessions, and increased student engagement with early recruiting timelines and the adoption of Handshake as a career development resource across the university.”

Students’ preparation for opportunities like the Career and Graduate School Fair begins well before they meet recruiters on campus. Oglethorpe University’s Career Development Office supports students throughout their academic journeys through one-on-one advising, career-focused panels, information sessions and Career Communities that connect students with alumni in fields aligned with their professional interests.

This year, that preparation also includes a series of sessions for sophomores focused on business professionalism, adaptability and applying the Oglethorpe Core to the workplace. The sessions lead toward Oglethorpe Goes to Work Day on Feb. 5, 2027, when sophomores will visit employers across Atlanta to explore career paths, connect with professionals and experience workplace environments firsthand.

Together, these opportunities reinforce career development as an ongoing part of an Oglethorpe education rather than a process that begins during a student’s final year.

“It is an exciting time to consider how we can best prepare our students to make a life, make a living, and make a difference,” Kazungu-Emerson said. “Through these initiatives, we are helping students connect their liberal arts education to meaningful career opportunities while building the skills, adaptability, and professional confidence they need to thrive in an evolving world of work.”
