The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-2025 academic year opened December 30.
The form was released three months later than usual as the Department of Education wrapped up its two-year effort to simplify the process by implementing changes that include a shortened form and allowing for streamlined access to financial information.
Completing the FAFSA is required to be eligible for federal grants and loans, such as the Pell Grant and Stafford Loan. Submission of the FAFSA can also be used to receive state awards — such as Hope and Zell Miller funding — as well as need-based scholarships from Oglethorpe and to be eligible for federal work study on campus.
To complete the FAFSA, visit studentaid.gov and follow the instructions based on whether you are a new or a returning user. Be sure to include Oglethorpe’s school code (001586).
You can also learn more at Oglethorpe’s January 11 FAFSA Filing Workshop, led by Director of Financial Aid Chris Summers ’03, who was featured in a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution article about the changes to this year’s FAFSA.
Students who have DACA status or are undocumented, international, or cannot complete the FAFSA for any other reason are invited to complete an internal student financial aid application. For students who are experiencing financial hardship, Oglethorpe offers Emergency Assistance Funding.
