Oglethorpe President Dr. Kathryn McClymond will rotate into the role of chair of the Presidents’ Council of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), effective July 1. The SAA is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and includes several colleges and universities throughout the Southeast.
In this role, Dr. McClymond will help to shape the strategic direction of the SAA, ensuring its continued success in its athletic programs. Her appointment further reflects Oglethorpe’s role in supporting student-athletes on and off the field.
“I’m honored to represent Oglethorpe and to contribute to the future of Division III athletics,” says Dr. McClymond. “Oglethorpe is proud to be part of a conference that champions academic and athletic excellence.”
Oglethorpe’s Athletic Director Todd Brooks will also take on a leadership role within the SAA, rotating into the chair position of the conference’s Athletic Directors Council.
“This is a great opportunity to continue to ensure that student-athletes across the conference continue to have a meaningful and well-rounded experience,” said Brooks. “The SAA is committed to supporting student success, and I’m glad to be a part of that work.”
The SAA member institutions share a commitment to prioritizing competitive athletics alongside rigorous academics. With Dr. McClymond and Brooks in these leadership roles, Oglethorpe will help guide the future of the SAA conference.
“Their commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes — both in competition and in the classroom — aligns perfectly with the SAA’s mission to foster academic excellence, athletic achievement, and personal growth through principled leadership and sportsmanship,” says Stacey LaDew, Commissioner of the Southern Athletic Association. “As a conference grounded in shared values and built on strong institutional alignment, the SAA continues to thrive because of the dedication of its leaders and the strength of its member institutions. We’re grateful to Dr. McClymond and Mr. Brooks for their leadership and look forward to their impact in the year ahead as we continue to elevate the SAA’s brand and student-athlete experience.”
