12 Oglethorpe students cast in Actor’s Express co-production of ‘Heathers: The Musical’

An impressive 12 Oglethorpe Theatre students have been cast in the upcoming dark comedy “Heathers: The Musical,” a co-production with Atlanta-based professional theatre company Actor’s Express, set to hit the Conant Performing Arts Center stage on Sept. 29.

Two of those students, Chloe Campbell ’24 and Wynne Kelly ’24, earned starring roles as the two of the titular Heathers.

Campbell takes on the role of Heather McNamara, the saccharine, yet timid head cheerleader at Westerberg High, while Kelly plays the petty and vengeful Heather Duke.

The following students were cast from approximately 300 performers who auditioned for the musical:

Heather McNamara – Chloe Campbell
Heather Duke – Wynne Kelly
Ram – Zion Glenn
Martha – Caroline Gammage
Hipster Dork – Alex Ray
New Wave Girl – Rachael Morris
Stoner Chick – Rae Pinheiro
Young Republicanette – Summer Stockard
Ensemble – Veronica Mitchell
Ensemble – Emma Jean Scott
Ensemble – Natalie Kasper
Ensemble – Lindsey Mueller

Cast alongside working Atlanta actors, these Oglethorpe students are able to work in a professional environment while still in college. “Heathers” represents a flurry of opportunities for these young actors to experience the rigorous and fast-paced world of professional theatre. And with opening night just around the corner, they are rising to the occasion.

“Heathers: The Musical” is directed by Freddie Ashley, who previously worked with OU Theatre to direct “Reefer Madness,” another dark comedy musical, in 2015.

Ashley and Matt Huff, Oglethorpe’s associate professor of theatre, teamed up again to brainstorm how Actor’s Express and Oglethorpe might collaborate on a show that could showcase both student performers and professional actors, finally selecting “Heathers.”

Oglethorpe students, faculty and staff may request one free ticket.  “Heathers: The Musical” will run from Sept. 29 – Oct. 17, 2021.

Safety is Actor’s Express and Oglethorpe University’s top priority. Effective immediately, all audience members must be fully vaccinated (2 shots +14 days) and be able to show proof of vaccination before attending Heathers: The Musical. Proof of vaccination will be required to pick up your tickets from the box office. Learn more about health and safety protocols here.
