Internships
Gain experience for your career
An internship is a well-planned learning experience that combines career development and academic learning. Internships may be paid or unpaid, and some may be available for academic credit. However, an internship is not a chance to get academic credit for your current part-time job. Unlike many part-time jobs, internships should help you apply your classroom learning in a career setting.
In today’s competitive job market, internships are one of the best ways to test-drive your career.
An internship can:
- Connect your academic studies to the real world
- Teach you about yourself
- Provide valuable information about the world around you

- Are a sophomore, junior or senior with minimum grade point average of 2.0.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of goals they wish to accomplish in the experience

F-1 Visa Holders and Internships for Credit
F-1 student visa holders can pursue internships off campus as long as they are approved by Career Development for an internship for credit. The Internship for Credit application is the first step for an F-1 student to then apply for Curricular Practical Training/CPT work permission to accept a paid OR unpaid internship off-campus. If you have any questions about CPT and OPT work permissions, contact the Office of Global Education at [email protected].
