Oglethorpe community gathers to cheer on student-athletes, show Petrel pride

Nearly 20% of Oglethorpe’s student population are student-athletes, playing the sport they love at a university with a supportive community. Students, faculty and staff were recently invited to rally behind the OU men’s and women’s soccer teams at the Petrel Pep Day.

Organized by Staff Council, the Faculty Senate, and the student club OU 6th Man, the event invited the campus community to show their school spirit and cheer on the teams as they played against Maryville College. Attendees were also joined by OU alumni who returned for the annual Soccer Tailgate.

“What makes Oglethorpe so special is our tight-knit and supportive community,” said Heather Neal, web content manager and Staff Council chair. “Any moment we can gather together is meaningful, so it was great to see faculty, staff, students, alumni and families come together to celebrate our student-athletes.”
