Checklist for Admission:

Official Transcripts

Transcripts must be submitted in English from all secondary education institutions attended. Oglethorpe may request that transcripts be evaluated by Josef Silney & Associates prior to submission.

Proof of Language Proficiency

Students must demonstrate English-language proficiency.

If English is not the student’s native language, they must submit one of the following:

  • CEFR: At or above C1-1
  • ELS: Completed Level 112
  • TOEFL: At or above 79 internet-based, 213 computer-based, 550 paper-based
  • IELTS: At or above 6.5
  • ESL: Completed Level 7
  • Duolingo English Exam: Proficient User

If English is a student’s native language or the language of instruction in school, they must submit one of the following:

  • SAT: At or above 500 in Evidence-Based Reading &Writing; combined score at or above 1000
  • ACT: At or above 21 in English & Reading; combined score at or above 21
  • A/O Levels: Above Average
International Study Center
Students who do not meet the language proficiency requirement are strongly encouraged to consider doing an International Year at the International Study Center. Our program at the International Study Center will help students adjust to learning in the USA during their first year studying abroad at Oglethorpe University. As experts in preparing international students for their programs, our support and guidance will help students to improve their English language skills and gain the academic knowledge needed to progress towards a degree.



To proceed with the visa and immigration process, all students seeking an F-1 student visa must provide a copy of the picture page of their passport.

Declaration of Finances

To proceed with the visa and immigration process, all students seeking an F-1 student visa must demonstrate funding for at least one full-year at Oglethorpe. Funding may be demonstrated through the submission of bank statements from a student’s sponsor(s) (usually parents or guardians), and/or through the submission of an official letter from the bank certifying that the student has access to the requisite funds.

Recommendation Letter

Students have the option to submit a letter of recommendation on their behalf from a teacher, counselor, coach, or other appropriate party. Letters of recommendation are not required for admission.

Application Fee

Students completing the Oglethorpe application, available at, will enjoy a free Early Action application for all who apply before November 15th. After November 15th, a $50 application fee is required. Please contact the Office of Admission if you are in need of a fee waiver.

Yes! All international students are automatically evaluated for merit awards up to $21,000. Furthermore, after admission, students can complete the International Student Financial Aid Form to be eligible for additional need-based aid.

Only students who are seeking F-1 student visas are considered international for admissions purposes. However, undocumented students are eligible to complete the International Student Financial Aid Form for additional need-based aid.
